1. The axiom: uterine blood with הרגשה → niddah → seven clean days

The starting point:

A woman whose blood comes out of her מקור (her uterine source) — whether באונס (under compulsion: a jump, an exertion) or ברצון (naturally) — is טמאה (niddah), provided she felt it (הרגשה) at the moment it detached. As soon as she feels that it detached from its place and came out, she is טמאה even if it did not exit to the outside (לבית החיצון), and even a single drop "כחרדל" (like a mustard grain) → she counts seven clean days (שבעה נקיים) (details at siman קצ״ו), then טבילה.

And one universal principle: "כל הבא על הנדה חייב כרת" — the prohibition applies with no distinction between single and married (Rama, in the name of the Rivash).

■ WHERE DOES THE BLOOD COME FROM? (מקור) — does the blood come from the makor (the uterine source)? Only this blood renders טמאה (Shach, derashah "מקור דמיה"). Blood of another origin (a wound, מכה) is a separate matter, to be clarified with a Rav (cf. כתמים, siman ק״צ).

■ DID SHE FEEL IT? (הרגשה) — was there הרגשה at the moment the blood detached? This is the דאורייתא condition. The PT (s.k. 1) distinguishes three kinds: שנזדעזע גופה (the body shudders), שנפתח מקורה (opening of the makor), דבר לח זב (a moist flow). Without הרגשה → it is not the same status (כתם, דרבנן, siman ק״צ).

⚖ עקירה or יציאה? (Taz · PT s.k. 2)

The טומאה arises from the עקירה — the detachment of the blood from its place in the makor — even if it has not yet exited לחוץ (Taz; cross-reference siman קפ״ח). The PT (s.k. 2) brings the שאלה of the ברית אברהם: does the exit from the בית החיצון to the outside count? The detail is a matter for in-depth study; in practice, once she feels that the blood has detached, the case is treated. ⚖ Why always seven clean days?

By Torah law, there are two institutions:

The חומרא דרבי זירא (Niddah 66a): "בנות ישראל החמירו על עצמן" — the daughters of Israel accepted that every sighting of blood, even a drop, even during the days of niddah, be treated as a possible זיבה. Hence the unified practice: one always counts seven clean days before the טבילה. This is what ties the single seif of 183 to all of contemporary טהרת המשפחה (details of the count: siman קצ״ו).

5. The 5 golden rules

  1. מקור. Only blood from the makor renders טמאה (Shach, "מקור דמיה"); blood of another origin is a separate matter (Rav / physician; cf. ק״צ).
  2. הרגשה = דאורייתא. The sensation at the moment of detachment is the basic condition. Three kinds (PT s.k. 1). Without it → כתם (דרבנן, siman ק״צ), a different status.
  3. עקירה suffices. טמאה from the detachment from the makor, even without exit לבית החיצון (Taz; siman קפ״ח).
  4. כחרדל. The smallest drop suffices, even dried (PT s.k. 3); no minimum measure and no distinction.
  5. שבעה נקיים — the חומרא דרבי זירא. Every sighting → one counts seven clean days before the טבילה (Niddah 66a; siman קצ״ו). The prohibition is universal: "כל הבא על הנדה חייב כרת" (Rama, Rivash).

❌ Pitfall 1 — Believing a כתם without הרגשה has the same status: a stain found without sensation (כתם) belongs to a different regime, דרבנן (siman ק״צ), with its own measures and conditions. The הרגשה founds the דאורייתא status; do not conflate the two. For your situation, consult your Rav.
❌ Pitfall 2 — Believing that exit to the outside is required: one might think that as long as the blood has not exited לחוץ, there is no טומאה. Wrong: the טומאה arises from the עקירה (detachment from the makor), even if it has not exited לבית החיצון (Taz; cross-reference siman קפ״ח). It is the sensation of the detachment that counts.
❌ Pitfall 3 — Overlooking the origin of the blood (מקור vs מכה): only blood from the makor renders טמאה (Shach, "מקור דמיה"). Blood of another origin (a wound, מכה, a medical cause) is a separate matter and is not decided alone. For cases of non-menstrual bleeding, consult your Rav (and, if needed, a physician).
❌ Pitfall 4 — Trivializing the universality of the prohibition: the prohibition of niddah makes no distinction between single and married (Rama, in the name of the Rivash), for "כל הבא על הנדה חייב כרת". It is a grave and intimate subject, to be treated with sobriety.
