1. The axiom: the דם חימוד and the bride's seven clean days
The starting point:
Siman 192 deals with the kallah about to enter the chuppah. Once she has been asked in marriage and has accepted (נתפייסה), she must count שבעה נקיים — the seven clean days — before her union, even if she examined herself and was טהורה at the moment of the request. Why? Out of concern that, through חימוד (the emotion, the desire of the moment), she may have seen a drop "כחרדל" without sensing it. The rule applies to a גדולה as to a קטנה, and the count begins the very next day after the request, without a hefsek tahara being required.

💡 The marker: this siman does not deal with an ordinary נדה counting her days after an observed flow, but with a count out of precaution — the דם חימוד. It is a concern peculiar to the bride, and the framework of the siman is: count, immerse at the right time, re-count if the wedding is postponed, and watch (שמירה) if she is נדה.

■ DID SHE ACCEPT? (נתפייסה) — once she has been asked in marriage and has given her consent, the count of שבעה נקיים may begin, even if she has not formally become engaged, once she settles it in her mind and prepares for the חופה (seif 1-2).

If the חתן transgressed and married her during this time, or if the kallah became נדה before the first union (before the ייחוד), then he does not seclude himself (לא יתייחד) with her: he sleeps among the men, she among the women (שומר / שומרת). Rama: י"א that if she was טהורה at the wedding, there was no union, and she became נדה afterward → no שמירה is needed ; one who is stringent is תבוא עליו ברכה. No distinction between בחור / אלמן, בתולה / אלמנה.

4. The 5 golden rules
- נתפייסה → שבעה נקיים. Once she was asked and accepted, the bride counts seven clean days, גדולה or קטנה (Mehaber seif 1).
- The בדיקה does not exempt. Even if she examined herself and was טהורה, we are concerned for a drop כחרדל through חימוד, without הרגשה (Mehaber seif 1).
- טבילה סמוך לבעילת מצוה. The kallah is immersed closest to the wedding; the custom is ליל ד׳ (Rama seif 2).
- Wedding postponed → re-count. Even if she had already counted, the postponement obliges a re-count of שבעה נקיים and a re-immersion (Mehaber seif 3).
- Kallah נדה before the ייחוד → שמירה. He does not seclude himself with her: שומר / שומרת; and מחזיר גרושתו also counts 7 נקיים (Mehaber seif 4-5).

- כ — כבר נתפייסה (already accepted): she consented → count שבעה נקיים, even if she was טהורה.
- ל — לטבול סמוך (immerse close): immerse closest to the בעילת מצוה (custom ליל ד׳); postponed → re-count.
- ה — השמירה (the watching): if she is נדה before the ייחוד, he does not seclude (שומר / שומרת).

6. The 4 classic pitfalls
❌ Pitfall 1 — Forgetting to re-count after a postponement: one sometimes thinks the seven clean days counted a first time "remain in hand." But if the wedding is deferred, the חימוד renews itself when a new date is set: the kallah must re-count שבעה נקיים and re-immerse. Even examinations done in the meantime do not substitute (seif 3).
❌ Pitfall 2 — Neglecting the שמירה if the kallah is נדה on the wedding night: when there was a chuppah but the kallah is נדה before the ייחוד, one cannot proceed "like any ordinary couple." The חתן does not seclude himself with her: a שומר and a שומרת are needed (he among the men, she among the women). A delicate situation, to be managed with a Rav (seif 4).
❌ Pitfall 3 — Believing a בדיקה exempts from the 7 days: the concern of the דם חימוד is precisely that a drop "כחרדל" may have been seen without הרגשה. An examination at the moment of the request, even a clean one, does not replace the count of the שבעה נקיים: the bride counts her seven days in any case (seif 1).
❌ Pitfall 4 — Forgetting the מחזיר גרושתו: one who takes back his ex-wife is not exempt from this precaution: the same concern of חימוד applies, and she counts שבעה נקיים before the union (seif 5).
