The main themes of the Siman

בָּרְכוּ
the call to bless
Barekhu is the call inviting the congregation to bless Hashem; the siman deals with the extra Barekhu at the end of the service (seif 1).
קַדִּישׁ בָּתְרָא
the last Kaddish
אין אומרים ברכו אחר קדיש בתרא — it is the Barekhu said after the last Kaddish of the service that is meant (seif 1).
מִנְהַג הַחוֹל
the weekday custom
שמא לא היו יחידים בב״ה כשאמרו ברכו — on weekdays some places repeat it for latecomers who missed it at the start (Rama).
שַׁבָּת וְיוֹם טוֹב
it is not said
דהכל באין לבית הכנסת קודם ברכו — on Shabbat and Yom Tov everyone comes before Barekhu, so the reason for the custom falls away (Rama).

Frequently asked questions — Siman קל״ג

Do we say Barekhu after prayer on Shabbat and Yom Tov according to Siman 133?

According to the Choulhan Aroukh, Orach Chaim 133:1, בשבת ויום טוב אין אומרים ברכו אחר קדיש בתרא — on Shabbat and Yom Tov we do not say Barekhu after the last Kaddish. The Barekhu at the start of prayer is said as usual; the siman deals with the extra Barekhu added at the end of the service.

Why do some say Barekhu on weekdays after prayer?

The Rama (Orach Chaim 133:1) explains the weekday custom: שמא לא היו יחידים בב״ה כשאמרו ברכו — lest there be individuals who were not present in the synagogue when Barekhu was said at the start of prayer; it is therefore repeated at the end so that they may hear it.

Why is this Barekhu not said on Shabbat and Yom Tov?

The Rama (Orach Chaim 133:1) concludes: מכל מקום בשבת וי״ט אין לאומרו דהכל באין לבית הכנסת קודם ברכו — on Shabbat and Yom Tov we do not say it, for everyone comes to the synagogue before Barekhu: no one missed the Barekhu at the start, so the reason for the weekday custom does not apply.
