1. כל העונה אמן — the source, and what it proves

↩ Detailed explanation (level 1)
The mishnah separates two regimes; the gemara joins them The mishnah in Shevuot first states that an oath of expression holds only מפי עצמו, and a few lines later that a man placed under oath by another is liable. The contradiction is plain; the gemara resolves it through the amen, and anchors the resolution in the verse of the suspected wife.
What Shmuel’s formula says, and what it does not It says כמוציא שבועה בפיו דמי — as though he had uttered it. The word דמי opens the question of rank: is the amen an equivalent of speech, or speech itself in another shape? Our seif does not take up דמי at all: it writes a reason, שהוא קבלת דברים.

2. אמן ומתפיס — why one binds and the other does not

The difficulty A man who says “I too, like you” after his fellow’s oath is exempt. A man who answers amen is liable. Yet neither uttered anything himself, and both signalled their adherence. What separates them?
The answer lies in Rambam’s own words He lays down two conditions, and both hold in the case of the He did not speak, and nobody put him under oath. In our siman the second condition is absent: his fellow imposed the vow on him, and his amen answers an adjuration aimed at him. That is why the seif takes care to write או שהדירו חבירו ואמר אמן — the two together.
What it changes A man hears his fellow vow for himself and says amen. On the reading above no adjuration was aimed at him: the first half of the seif is not speaking about him. And Rambam adds that the מתפיס, exempt though he is from lashes and from a sacrifice, may still not eat what he attached — showing that adherence produces something even where it does not produce a full vow.

3. דבר שעניינו כענית אמן — the scope of the rule

The principle Were it the word “amen” that operated, the extension would be a leniency. Since it is the acceptance, the extension is the rule itself: Rambam gives three formulas and concludes בכל לשון.
And the Shach does not comment: he refers His first ס״ק is one line long, and it is a line of cross-references. He sends the reader to three places in Yoreh De‘ah where the same mechanism is at work on other matters. The choice is telling: he treats the rule of the amen as a transversal principle, of which this siman is merely the barest statement.

4. מדירו משלו — three readings of one word

The Beit Yosef’s reading, taken up by the Shach The “his” is the speaker’s: Reuven forbids Shimon to benefit from Reuven’s property. Since that takes effect anyway, Shimon’s acceptance is beside the point.
The Taz’s objection: it bears on the drafting, not on the ruling If the prohibition works against the other man’s will, the stronger case should have been written — the man who protests aloud and refuses. To write “he need not accept” points instead to a man who keeps silent.
The Taz’s reading The “his” belongs to the man addressed: Reuven forbids Shimon to benefit from Shimon’s own property. And the Taz shows that this ruling is written out elsewhere, in siman 236, about an oath — the Tur states it there, and the Shulchan Arukh adds Rambam’s line about those who keep their word all the same.
The Nekudot HaKesef answer, and their arguments are worth counting (a) Style: having written קבלת דברים at the outset, the Mehaber continued in the same register at the close — and the prohibition does hold against the other man’s will. (b) Against the Taz’s reading itself: if the property is Shimon’s, how can one say כשחבירו מדירו, since he cannot impose a vow on him? (c) Why should acceptance ever be needed, seeing that we are dealing with a vow and not with an oath? (d) And what is this ruling doing here, and what does that אבל then mean?
What it changes It is sharp and it is practical. For the Beit Yosef and the Nekudot HaKesef, a man may render his property forbidden to his fellow even if the fellow refuses aloud. For the Taz our clause says nothing of the kind: it speaks of a man purporting to forbid his fellow the property of that fellow, and the Taz writes that this holds מצד הדין without acceptance. The Ba’er Hetev reports both, and notes that the Nekudot HaKesef decided against the Taz.

5. עד היכן כוחו לאסור — the Pitchei Teshuva’s limit

The power to forbid is an owner’s power The Beit Yosef’s whole reading rests on a silent premise: the thing is his. The Pitchei Teshuva takes that premise seriously and draws the consequence — once the thing has ceased to be his, his word no longer reaches it.
The case, and the tipping point A man snatched fruit out of his fellow’s hand; the fellow told him that this fruit was forbidden to him; he paid no heed and ate it. The tipping point is the lifting: Having lifted, he acquired — even in theft — and the owner’s word falls upon a thing that is no longer his.
What it changes, and it is twofold (1) Forbidden before the lifting: the prohibition took hold, and whoever eats has eaten a forbidden thing — even ready to pay, he needs סליחה וכפרה. (2) Forbidden after: nothing at all. And the responsum adds a further distinction, according to whether he snatched meaning to rob or meaning to pay.
