And it contains forty-five seifim (מ״ה סעיפים): there is no priestly blessing with fewer than ten (אין נשיאת כפים פחות מעשרה), the Cohanim counting among the ten (הכהנים מן המנין), and a non-Cohen does not raise his hands even with other Cohanim, for he עובר בעשה. The Cohanim wash their hands again up to the wrist (עד הפרק) and the Levite pours the water on their hands ; they ascend the dukhan without shoes, turn their faces toward the ark and then toward the people, raise their hands to shoulder height and spread their fingers to make ה׳ אוירים, and bless אשר קדשנו בקדושתו של אהרן וצונו לברך את עמו ישראל באהבה. One blesses only in לשון הקודש, standing, with raised hands and aloud (בקול רם). Finally, the defects that disqualify (הפוסלין) : ההורג נפש even inadvertently, the מומר, one who drank a רביעית of wine, one who cannot articulate the letters, one whose hands are dyed, one who married a גרושה, one who נטמא למת and the חלל.
