This siman (ב׳ סעיפים) settles the סדר היום — the order of the day after prayer. A single yesod: ① from the synagogue one rises to study — מחיל אל חיל — and fixes a עת ללמוד at once, before turning to one's affairs. ② This עת must be קבועה ותקועה: שלא יעבירנו אף אם הוא סבור להרויח הרבה, for constancy is the core of the mitsva (קבעת עתים לתורה). ③ And even the body serves study — פת שחרית is permitted to one accustomed to it, וטוב שירגיל בו.

⚖ The structure of the siman at a glance
The whole siman rests on a single yesod: to order the day around the Torah. Hence (①) the ascent — אחר שיצא מבית הכנסת ילך לבית המדרש ויקבע עת ללמוד; (②) the constancy — קבוע שלא יעבירנו אף אם הוא סבור להרויח הרבה; (③) the body in service — פת שחרית אם הוא רגיל בו. 📚 The yesod of the ascent to study: as soon as he leaves the synagogue he goes to the beit haMidrash and fixes there a time to study — אחר שיצא מבית הכנסת ילך לבית המדרש ויקבע עת ללמוד: from the strength of prayer one rises to the strength of Torah, מחיל אל חיל (Berakhot 64a), without letting the affairs of the world interpose. And even one who does not know how to study is not exempt: ואף מי שאינו יודע ללמוד ילך לבית המדרש ושכר הליכה בידו או יקבע לו מקום וילמוד מעט במה שיודע ויחשוב בעניניו ויכנס בלבו יראת שמים — the reward of the walk itself is in his hand (Rama, following רבינו יונה, פרק קמא דברכות).

📚 The yesod of constancy and the body: the fixed time must be firm and rooted; he does not move it — וצריך שאותו עת יהיה קבוע שלא יעבירנו אף אם הוא סבור להרויח הרבה: for one who moves his time once ends by uprooting it, and his Torah becomes עראי (קבעת עתים לתורה, Shabbat 31a).
