And it contains two seifim (ב׳ סעיפים): having settled on whom a zimun is made, the Choulhan Aroukh turns to the diner who has not yet finished eating when the others wish to bless. The first seif lays down an asymmetry that is the whole siman: one interrupts for two — even against his will — and the zimun is made on him whether he answers or not, so long as he is still there; but two are not obliged to interrupt for one, so that the obligation of zimun does not even arise until they agree to it — and if they refused, the one who wished to leave may not bless alone and go out either, for he has already become obligated in the zimun. The second seif measures how long the interruption lasts: until ברוך שאכלנו משלו for the Mechaber, until הזן את הכל for the Rama and the custom — and then one resumes the meal without a new blessing.

One interrupts even against his will for the other two and answers the zimun blessing with them (seif 1); and in the Gemara: three who ate together — one interrupts for two, and two do not interrupt for one (Berakhot 45b).
even against his will
Even if he did not wish to interrupt, the zimun is made on him whether he answers or not, so long as he is still standing there (seif 1) — the joining does not depend on his consent but on his being present.
two do not interrupt for one
Two are not obliged to interrupt for one, and so the obligation of zimun does not take effect until they agree to interrupt for him and bless (seif 1); and the case of Rav Papa was done lifnim mi-shurat ha-din (Berakhot 45b).
how far the interruption goes
He need only interrupt until they say barukh shé-akhalnu mi-shelo (seif 2); and per the Rama, until ha-zan et ha-kol, which is the custom; and this is the Gemara's own question — « עד היכן ברכת הזמון » (Berakhot 46a).

Detail
א׳
one interrupts for two
Three who ate together: one interrupts even against his will for the two and answers the zimun blessing with them; and even if he did not want to interrupt, they make the zimun on him whether he answers or not, as long as he is still there. But two are not obliged to interrupt for one; if they refused and he made the zimun on them he accomplished nothing, and he too may not bless and go out to the market until the two have finished and he makes the zimun with them.
how far he interrupts
He need only interrupt until they say barukh shé-akhalnu mi-shelo, etc. The Rama's gloss: some say he must interrupt until they say ha-zan et ha-kol, and this is the custom; and if he intended to return and eat bread, he begins from the start of birkat ha-Zan. And he resumes and finishes his meal without a blessing at the outset.

Frequently asked questions — Siman
Three who ate together: must the one who has not finished interrupt his meal for the zimun (Siman 200)?
According to the Choulhan Aroukh, Orach Chaim 200:1, he must — even against his will: « שלשה שאכלו כאחד אחד מפסיק על כרחו לב׳ ועונה עמהם ברכת זימון » (שו״ע או״ח ר׳:א); and even if he did not wish to interrupt, « ואפילו לא רצה להפסיק מזמנין עליו בין עונה בין אינו עונה כל שהוא עומד שם » (שו״ע או״ח ר׳:א). The source is the Gemara: « שלשה שאכלו כאחת אחד מפסיק לשנים ואין שנים מפסיקין לאחד » (Berakhot 45b).
Must two diners interrupt their meal for a third (Siman 200)?
According to the Choulhan Aroukh, Orach Chaim 200:1, they need not: « אבל שנים אין חייבים להפסיק לאחד » (שו״ע או״ח ר׳:א), and « הלכך אין חיוב זימון חל עד שיתרצו להפסיק לאחד ולברך » (שו״ע או״ח ר׳:א); and if they refused, « ואם לא רצו להפסיק וזימן הוא עליהם לא עשה כלום » (שו״ע או״ח ר׳:א). The Gemara objects from Rav Papa — « והא רב פפא אפסיק ליה לאבא מר בריה איהו וחד » (Berakhot 45b) — and answers: « שאני רב פפא דלפנים משורת הדין הוא דעבד » (Berakhot 45b).
How far must he interrupt his meal (Siman 200)?
According to the Choulhan Aroukh, Orach Chaim 200:2: « אינו צריך להפסיק אלא עד שיאמר ברוך שאכלנו משלו וכו׳ » (שו״ע או״ח ר׳:ב); and the Rama: « וי״א שצריך להפסיק עד שיאמר הזן את הכל וכן נוהגין » (רמ״א או״ח ר׳:ב). This is the Gemara's own question — « עד היכן ברכת הזמון » (Berakhot 46a) — and the Tur ruled: « ומפסיק עד שיסיימו ברכת הזן » (טור או״ח ר׳), « והלכה כרב ששת » (טור או״ח ר׳).
Does he then resume his meal with a new blessing (Siman 200)?
According to the Choulhan Aroukh, Orach Chaim 200:2, he does not: « וחוזר וגומר סעודתו בלא ברכה בתחילה » (שו״ע או״ח ר׳:ב). The Tur records the contrary view of Rav Hai — « כתב רב האי שאחד שמפסיק לשנים צריך לחזור ולברך המוציא » (טור או״ח ר׳) — and holds like the Rosh: « אלא חוזרים וגומרים סעודתן בלא ברכה » (טור או״ח ר׳). And the Rama adds: « ואם היה דעתו לחזור ולאכול פת אע״פ שלא אכל אח״כ כשרוצ׳ לברך מברך מתחיל׳ ברכת הזן » (רמ״א או״ח ר׳:ב).
