4. Mnemonic — S-K-H
S — Shesh (שש = six): six tekiyos in the ancient practice. Three "function" + three "exit".
K — Kruz (כרוז = announcement): today the verbal announcement replaces the shofar.
H — Hakharazah (הכרזה): the shaliach tzibbur or shamash announces ~30-60 min before Shabbos.
To memorize: "S-K-H for siman 256: Shesh tekiyos in antiquity, Kruz today, Hakharazah of the shaliach tzibbur one hour before."

7. 5 pitfalls to avoid
Pitfall 1: Thinking that "the communal announcement doesn't concern me if I know the time". False — the collective dimension is the essence of the siman. Even if you know the time, the announcement is your way of entering together with others.
Pitfall 2: Making the announcement just before candle lighting (5 min before). Too late — the Rema recommends 30-60 min, to allow time for preparations. This is the practical spirit of the siman.
Pitfall 3: If you are responsible for a family / shul, forgetting to signal. Missed — this is precisely the role of the modern shaliach tzibbur. Making the announcement is performing the mitzvah.
Pitfall 4: Setting an SMS/app at the exact time of candle lighting. Too late — the alert must arrive before to allow preparation. 30 min before minimum.
Pitfall 5: Traveling or in a hotel — relying on an unverified calendar. Risk — the local sunset time varies according to latitude/longitude. Always check on a reliable Jewish calendar + adjust the alarm accordingly.
