Two Courtyards and the Houses Between Them

2 seifim in the Shulchan Aruch of the Mechaber, without a gloss of the Rema; 2 also in the Shulchan Aruch HaRav, divided the same way, under its own numbering. When houses separate two courtyards, what role does each of them play for the eruv — a house in which the eruv is placed, or a gatehouse one passes through to bring it there? The siman describes the case of three houses and a joint eruv (seif א), and that of two houses and an eruv that each courtyard makes for itself (seif ב); in seif ב, the reason it writes is the place where each one placed the eruv: the gatehouse of another courtyard.
