Everything depends on the making of the threads. The threads must be spun to their intention (טווין לשמן) and twisted to their intention (שזורין לשמן): otherwise, pesoulim. Their number is fixed: four threads doubled = eight (ד׳ כפולים שהם ח׳); their length is no less than twelve גודלים (י״ב גודלים). The threads must be kosher: neither stolen (גזול), nor debased (ביזוי מצוה), nor idol-worshipped (נעבד). Q: How must the tsitsit threads be made?

🟢 טווין לשמן — Spun לשם ציצית; one states it at the start of spinning. Otherwise → pesoulim (seif 1).
🟡 טוואן עכו״ם + ישראל על גבו — Rambam pasoul / Rosh kosher; the custom that the ישראל helps a little (seif 2).

The law of לשמה
The siman opens on the yesod of לשמה (Menachot 42b — תעשה לך): unlike ordinary cloth, the tsitsit threads require an intention — to be spun, then twisted, for the sake of the mitzva. Hence the machloket of the טוואן עכו״ם (Rambam vs Rosh, seif 2), and the middle custom that the ישראל helps a little. 4. מספר החוטים ואורכם — the number and length

📚 The yesod of seifim 4 and 12: the tsitsit is גדילים — two threads that are twisted (which makes four), doubled = eight. The length of the ענף (the free part) and the גדיל (the wound part) is fixed at י״ב גודלים after the tying. One thread is longer (the שמש) for the כריכות. 5. פסולי החוטים — the invalid threads

The yesod of the פסולים
Three distinct disqualifications: the ביזוי מצוה (seif 5) — the mitzva is not made of a debased material; the גזול (seif 6) — ועשו להם משלהם, the mitzva must be « theirs », hence the distinction stolen threads / stolen wool (Nimoukei Yossef); and the נעבד (seif 8) — worshipped wool is pesoula, but worshipped planted flax has changed (שינוי) and is kosher again. Borrowed threads (שאולין, seif 7), by contrast, are kesherim, for a loan counts as appropriation. The precise yesod is treated in Level 4 (refer to the Rav).
6. הנקב וההרחקה — the hole and the distance
Q: Where to pierce the hole through which the tsitsit pass?

🔴 Too high — More than 3 fingers from the corner → no longer « כנף » (seif 9).
🔴 Too low — Less than מלא קשר גודל → תחת הכנף (seif 9).
🟢 אימרא — A hem around the נקב so it does not tear below the measure (seif 10).
⚠️ הגדיל — One does not place the tsitsit in the wide woven selvage (אוריליי״ו); yet it counts for the measure (seif 11).
📚 The yesod of seifim 9-11: the Torah says על הכנף — the tsitsit is placed on the corner itself of the garment. Hence the framing of the נקב: between מלא קשר גודל (a thumb's width to the nail) and three fingers from the edge. Below that, it is no longer « the corner »; above, no longer « the כנף ». The גדיל (woven selvage) not being of the body of the בגד, one does not place the threads there. The detail is treated in Level 4.
7. סדר הקשירה — the order of knots

The yesod of the סדר
The תעשה ולא מן העשוי (seif 13) commands the order of acts: one cuts the ends first to have only eight kosher threads, then winds and ties. Winding or tying with an extra thread, then cutting, renders the tsitsit pasoul (it was made « בפיסול »). The סדר הקשירה (seif 14) fixes the structure: five double knots, four spaces full of כריכות (custom 7-9-11-13 = 40), the whole width ד׳ גודלים and the ענף ח׳ גודלים.
