Synthesis — Revision
Fourteen sections: the axiom and the two sides, the five reflex questions, the master table of the nineteen seifim, then the five mechanisms — speech, the public measure, possession, the bearing of risk, labour —, the disqualifying shape, the transactions without merchandise, the restraint of the man of standing, the vocabulary, the golden rules and the pitfalls.

Halakha lema'asse — Ruling
The siman’s line of ruling, the five-question protocol, the ruling seif by seif, and the contemporary figures: discount, factoring, pre-order, consignment, import-export, contingent financing, insurance. Note: the Admur HaZaken did not write a Shulhan Arukh on Yoreh De’ah — a level of ruling, not “Daat HaRav”.

Frequently asked questions — Siman 173
Why may one sell a cloak dearer on credit, but not pepper?
Seif 1 lays down the distinction, and it turns on a public measure:
And he gives the permission in the same sentence, with its reserve:
Where the object has a market rate, the gap between the cash price and the credit price is measurable: it is visibly the price of the delay. Where nobody knows exactly what the thing is worth, there is nothing to measure. But two reserves remain: say nothing, and do not raise the price so far that the thing shows.

Is a discount for early payment permitted?
Seif 3 permits it, and the Rama’s gloss at once gives the condition:
Everything turns on the instant of conclusion. Once the price of twelve is settled, the buyer owes twelve; agreeing to receive ten at once is a waiver of a claim. But if the two prices are set out before the conclusion, they form the alternative that seif 1 forbids. The Pit’hei Teshuva adds a stringency: even if the thing was truly worth twelve.

May one sell a claim to a third party at a discount?
Seif 4 permits it expressly, and lays down the condition that decides everything:
The Taz gives the reason in a line, and the Shakh carries it to its end:
The buyer buys a risk, not a delay — that is why it is not a loan. But if the seller keeps recourse, he has sold nothing: he has lent, and the discount is interest.
For its application to your own situation, consult your Rav.
May one pay in advance, at a reduced price, for goods the seller does not yet have?
Seif 7 answers, and it even decides the borderline case:
The Beit Yosef gives the reason, in the Rivash’s name:
If he has it, the money buys, and the rebate is only a rebate. If he has it not, the money remains a loan and the rebate is its fruit. The Rama is lenient for an object of unknown valuation, but the Shakh adds a condition the Ba’er Hetev keeps for practice — the rate must be established.

What makes it lawful to pay later, or to pay less earlier?
Two things, and the siman returns to them constantly. The first is the bearing of risk: seif 9 permits because the buyer may lose as much as he may gain.
And the Taz applies the same formula in reverse to forbid, at seif 13:
The second is labour. What pays for trouble actually taken is never interest — but the Shakh, reading the Beit Yosef, requires that this wage be full.
For its application to your own situation, consult your Rav.
Does the siman speak of insurance?
Yes, and it ends on it. The last seif of the siman is the exact opposite of the one before it:
The Shakh explains why the two are unlike, even though in both cases someone is paid to take a risk:
At seif 18 the money goes from lender to borrower and returns increased: the form of the loan stands. At seif 19 it goes the other way — the owner pays the one who will take the loss. There is nothing to return, and therefore nothing that could be a loan.
