Why a Level 4 devoted to the Alter Rebbe ? The Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch is not a commentary on the Mehaber (מחבר) — it is a complete, self-standing Shulchan Aruch, written by the Alter Rebbe (Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, founder of Habad, disciple of the Maggid (מגיד) of Mezeritch). Its singularity : it combines halakha (הלכה) + טעמי המצוות + inner dimension in one work, and rules with a unique Talmudic rigor.
For Habad, the Alter Rebbe is הפוסק האחרון — his psak is the deciding authority. This page gathers the Rav’s way on siman In the Rav it unfolds over ט׳ סְעִיפִים (nine seifim) : the מְקוֹם הַכְּרִיעוֹת (בְּ״אָבוֹת״ וּבְ״הוֹדָאָה״ תְּחִלָּה וָסוֹף), the bowing on רֹאשׁ הַשָּׁנָה and יוֹם כִּפּוּר, the הַכּוֹרֵעַ בְּמָקוֹם שֶׁלֹּא תִּקְּנוּ, the שִׁעוּר הַכְּרִיעָה וְאָפְנָהּ, the כּוֹרֵעַ בְּ״בָרוּךְ״ וְזוֹקֵף בַּשֵּׁם, the מַרְאִית הָעַיִן, and the מַטְבֵּעַ שֶׁטָּבְעוּ חֲכָמִים with the הַמַּשְׁתִּיקִין.

The Alter Rebbe’s own text (Sefaria source Shulchan_Arukh_HaRav,_Orach_Chayim.113), followed by our English translation. The siman has nine seifim (ט׳ סְעִיפִים ; seif k → .113.k).
One bows at « Avot » (beginning and end) and « Hodaah » (beginning and end). One who would bow at the beginning or end of every berakha — מלמדין אותו שלא ישחה, so as not to uproot the Sages’ takana (each would claim he is free to be more stringent, and there would be no takana at all, and one would come to be lenient even at « Avot » and « Hodaah »). But in the middle — מֻתָּר לִשְׁחוֹת, since the Sages never instituted bowing in the middle of any berakha.
Those who bow on Rosh haShana and Yom Kippur when saying « Zokhreinou » and « Mi Khamokha » must straighten when reaching the end of the berakha. Although at « Avot » one bows at the end of the berakha, one must still straighten a little at the end of « Zokhreinou », before the words near « Baroukh Ata », so as to be able to bow again at « Baroukh Ata » (the first bowing does not suffice, since one must bow at « Baroukh », and so that he appears to bow by obligation — the first being reshut). At the end of « Mi Khamokha » there is no need to straighten before « Baroukh Ata ». Likewise one who prays the whole tefillah bowed on RH/YK must straighten at the end and start of each berakha, so as not to add to the takana.

Bowing at the « Hodaah » of Birkat haMazon or of Hallel — מְגֻנֶּה ; likewise the other hodaot (« Lekha levaddekha anachnou modim »…). One bows only where the Sages instituted — Avot and Hodaah of the tefillah, beginning and end — since « hodaah » is not a term of prostration but of acknowledgment (הַחְזָקַת טוֹבָה) : one who bows because of the word « hodaah » is a fool and his bowing is folly. But one who bows at places of praise/supplication, or from a reason, or from custom (the bowings of Kaddish), or because his heart was inflamed — מְשֻׁבָּח. « Vekhol koma lefanekha tishtachaveh » — מְגֻנֶּה (he bows because of the word « hishtachavaah ») ; but « Va’anachnou koreim » — since it speaks of the whole world — יָפֶה ; likewise « Vehakohanim vehaam… hayou koreim » at Musaf of YK, and « Chatou avou pashou » where one beats the chest as at « Ashamnou ».
One who prays must bow until all the vertebrae of the spine protrude (יִתְפַּקְּקוּ). He should not bow only from the middle of the loins with his head staying straight — the head too bends like a reed (כְּאַגְמוֹן). But he should not bow so much that his mouth is against the belt of his trousers, for that looks like כְּיוּהֲרָא (bowing to excess). An elder or a sick person who cannot bow until the vertebrae protrude — once he has bent his head, it suffices (דַּיּוֹ), since it is seen that he wishes to bow but is in pain.
One bows at « Baroukh » and straightens at the Name, after « Hashem zokef kefoufim » (Hashem raises the bent). At the bowing at the start of a berakha, if he wishes not to straighten until near the חֲתִימָה — הָרְשׁוּת בְּיָדוֹ ; but if he wishes to straighten at once — he must straighten at the Name. Likewise the bowing at the end of a berakha (where he must straighten at once so as not to stay bent at the start of the next) — he straightens at the Name. Those who pray on RH/YK bowed straighten only at the end and start of the berakha.
When he bows — quickly, at once ; when he straightens — slowly, his head first and then his body, so that the bowing does not appear on him like a burden (כְּמַשּׁאוֹי) were he to straighten quickly. And per the Sod : at « Baroukh » he bends at the knees (בְּבִרְכָּיו), and at « Ata » he prostrates until all the vertebrae protrude.
One who prays and a non-Jew bearing a cross (שְׁתִי וָעֵרֶב) comes toward him, and he reaches a place where one bows — לֹא יִשְׁחֶה, even though his heart is to Heaven, because of מַרְאִית הָעַיִן (he would appear to prostrate to idolatry ; and whatever was forbidden for marit ayin is forbidden even in the innermost chambers). If the non-Jew is a minister or hegemon before whom people prostrate even without the cross in his hand — one may be lenient even where seen (see Yoreh De’ah siman ק״נ).

One does not add to the titles of the Holy One, blessed be He, beyond « haE-l hagadol hagibor vehanora », for when one says more and concludes — it appears as if he had exhausted all His praises, and who can make heard all His glory ? Even these three epithets, had Moché not written them in the Torah and had the Men of the Great Assembly not instituted them in the tefillah — we would not say them ; therefore one does not change the מַטְבֵּעַ of the Sages. This is in the tefillat י״ח ; but in supplications, requests and praises one says of oneself — one may multiply titles. There are those who forbid in every case (since every perfection that is with us has nothing of its kind with Him)… but the essence is like the first opinion. So one recites the techinot « aneinou » ordered by א״ב. Nevertheless it is proper, for one who wishes to lengthen in praises, to say them through the reading of verses — לָצֵאת לְדִבְרֵי הַכֹּל.

One who says in his supplications « Mi shericheim al kan tzippor yeracheim aleinou » — מַשְׁתִּיקִין אוֹתוֹ, for the mitsvot of the Omnipresent are not mercy but decrees upon His people (to make known that they are His servants and keep His mitsvot and the decree of His statutes even in matters where the Satan and the nations have grounds to object : what need is there in this mitsva ?). Likewise one who says « Al hatov she’ata oseh lanou yizacher shemekha » — מַשְׁתִּיקִין אוֹתוֹ, for one must bless on evil as one blesses on the good (see siman ר״ל).

The yesod : the הכריעות in the Amida
The Alter Rebbe’s reading of this siman unfolds along four axes. First the מְקוֹם הַכְּרִיעוֹת — where one bows and where one does not. Then the הַכּוֹרֵעַ בְּמָקוֹם שֶׁלֹּא תִּקְּנוּ — מְגֻנֶּה or מְשֻׁבָּח. Then the שִׁעוּר הַכְּרִיעָה וְאָפְנָהּ — measure, manner, « Baroukh » and the Name. Finally the מַרְאִית הָעַיִן and מַטְבֵּעַ הַתְּפִלָּה — cross, titles, and the הַמַּשְׁתִּיקִין.
The place of the bowings — Avot and Hodaah
The principle. One bows at « Avot » and « Hodaah », תְּחִלָּה וָסוֹף. One who would add at the start/end of another berakha — מְלַמְּדִין אוֹתוֹ שֶׁלֹּא יִשְׁחֶה, so as not to uproot the Sages’ takana ; but in the middle — מֻתָּר (seifim א-ב).
The consequence. The place of bowing is fixed by the takana, not by the meaning of the words. Cf. siman 112.
Bowing where one has not instituted
The principle. Bowing at « hodaah » or « vekhol koma » because of the word — מְגֻנֶּה וְסָכָל ; but from שְׁבָחִים, תַּחֲנוּנִים, מִנְהָג or הִתְלַהֲבוּת — מְשֻׁבָּח, and « va’anachnou koreim » (about the whole world) — יָפֶה (seif ג).
The consequence. The criterion is not the word but the Cf. siman 111.
The measure and manner of the bow
The principle.
The consequence. The form of the body serves the כַּוָּנָה, without excess or burden. Cf. siman 114.
Marit ayin and the matbea of the tefillah
The principle.
The consequence. One preserves the מַטְבֵּעַ שֶׁטָּבְעוּ חֲכָמִים and keeps away the faulty appearance. Cf. siman 110.
A note for study. The scope of this siman — the מְקוֹם הַכְּרִיעוֹת, the שִׁעוּר הַכְּרִיעָה and the מַטְבֵּעַ הַתְּפִלָּה — bears on the daily conduct of the עֲמִידָה. This page presents it at the level of the principle attested in the Rav’s text, adding nothing invented. For deep study and personal conduct, study with a Habad Rav and in the texts themselves.

The force of the Alter Rebbe’s psak
A comparison of the Alter Rebbe’s way with those of the Mehaber, the Mishna Beroura (משנה ברורה) and the Aroukh haShulchan (ערוך השולחן) on the key points of siman קי״ג. The Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch (שולחן ערוך הרב) row is highlighted — it shows the Rav’s own sensibility as it emerges from his nine seifim.

The lines of force of the Rav’s way on this siman
Three orientations that mark the Alter Rebbe’s sensibility on this siman. Each follows the structure : principle of the siman → the Rav’s reading → practical consequence. Each line rests on the Rav’s real text (§1).
Line 1 — not to uproot the takana
Principle of the siman :
The Rav’s reading : the criterion is שֶׁלֹּא יָבוֹא לַעֲקֹר תַּקָּנַת חֲכָמִים ; in the middle — מֻתָּר, since there is no takana. Cf. siman 112.
Practical consequence : bow exactly at the four instituted places, neither fewer nor more.
Line 2 — manner and measure
Principle of the siman :
The Rav’s reading : כּוֹרֵעַ בְּ״בָרוּךְ״ וְזוֹקֵף בַּשֵּׁם, and per the Sod בְּ״בָרוּךְ״ בְּבִרְכָּיו. Cf. siman 114.
Practical consequence : bend head and body without yohara ; rise slowly, the head first.
Line 3 — the matbea of the Sages
Principle of the siman :
The Rav’s reading : בַּתַּחֲנוּנִים יָכוֹל לְהַרְבּוֹת, and it is proper בִּקְרִיאַת פְּסוּקִים לָצֵאת לְדִבְרֵי הַכֹּל. Cf. siman 110.
Practical consequence : keep the fixed matbea in the Amida ; reserve added praises for personal tefillot.
Habad practice
Points of conduct that follow directly from siman קי״ג in the sensibility of the Alter Rebbe and Habad — presented at the level of the principle, deferring to the Rav for the detail of cases.
For the Habad Hassid — Siman
Bow at « Avot » and « Hodaah », תְּחִלָּה וָסוֹף ; do not add at the start/end of another berakha (מְלַמְּדִין אוֹתוֹ שֶׁלֹּא יִשְׁחֶה).
One who bows at « Zokhreinou »/« Mi Khamokha » — straighten at the end of the berakha, in order to bow again at « Baroukh Ata ». Basis : SA HaRav קי״ג seif ב.
Bowing because of the word « hodaah » or « vekhol koma » — מְגֻנֶּה ; from מִנְהָג/הִתְלַהֲבוּת or « va’anachnou koreim » — יָפֶה.
⚠ This section presents Habad conduct grounded in the Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch, siman קי״ג (real text reproduced in §1). It does not replace a rabbinic decision for a particular case. For any concrete question — the מְקוֹם הַכְּרִיעוֹת, the שִׁעוּר הַכְּרִיעָה, the מַטְבֵּעַ הַתְּפִלָּה — consult your Rav, and for Habad, a Habad Rav.
